It Gets Better Campaign
Recently there have been a lot of stories about bullying and light is being shown on how it really is costing America with the senseless deaths of so many young lives. While it’s definitely an issue that needs to be addressed in our schools concerning the kids who are doing the bullying, there definitely is another side to the children who so easily give up their lives unnecessarily because of it.
How do we not only teach our children to not bully others due to their differences, but rather try to uplift and embrace each other because of them? How do we teach children that bullying is not okay and shouldn’t be an accepted part of society? How do we teach them how to reach out without being afraid of the likely consequences of coming off like a tattle tail and putting them an even more vulnerable situation?
Most importantly, how do we teach our children how to stand up for themselves and live in a world that isn’t always going to accept or embrace them? Change inevitably will come, however some may never see the change or tolerance that they want to in their lifetime. How do we teach our children to find happiness anyway and fight for change by accepting and loving themselves even when others do not? How do we teach them that even if things don’t always change out in the world, and there will always be people who simply do not understand or are tolerant that their lives are still valuable?
Everyone lives through and overcomes some type of adversity. We all know that kids (and unfortunately even adults) can be cruel and that many times in life you do feel like you are the only one going through something. But if you live through it and long enough, then you do find out that in time all circumstances do change and that we do deserve of happiness. Fortunately, with the internet and the powerful connections and sharing that are allowed through it, people are beginning to be able to find support and education more easily.
I think this campaign really is a great one, because it focuses less on punishing the offenders and more on empowering the individuals who have the possibility of becoming victims or another statistic. It’s all about education, enlightenment and giving our children the most resources we possibly can as parents. I think this is a great link to share with all children!

I agree - I think the strong point of the campaign is that it’s all about educating the individual. rather than punishing the offender. Most kids bully, without really knowing why they do it or anything.
