Twelve Duggar’s Get Chicken Pox

Posted by Laurel on September 16th, 2010

People tend to go one way or another with their opinions about the controversial family of the Duggar’s. While they don’t seem to be as easy to judge as a single parent of multiples or the divorced couple of multiples, there is still a lot of room for error with this never ending expanding family.

It seems that people either think that they are absolute looney and should be put on a planet by themselves (maybe they are on a whole other planet thus they needed to reproduce in order to make them feel they aren’t alone?), there are others that look at their wholesome image and think they with their undying love, patience and well behaved children they are ideal to some degree.

On one hand, I agree people should have free will and that neither society nor government should be able to dictate how many children two people can have, I also feel that there is something severely odd about two people who choose to have that many children. I also question such large responsibility on the eldest children. Wouldn’t any child of free will choose the undivided attention and love of their parents? While this of course isn’t always realistic and children do need to know the value of sharing and some responsibility in life, these children really have no say in the matter. They have been conditioned and trained from a very young age concerning what life is and how they have to live it. I know a few kids that might vote to hold and take care of a new baby, but it wouldn’t be too long before they wouldn’t want it to shut up, smell better or go back to mom or dad.

So they make headlines recently with their latest child coming home and their still going strong attitude that reveals they may have more…seriously. They also make headlines about twelve of them getting the chicken pox. Can you imagine?! I know that when I got chicken pox in around 4th grade or so how miserable I was and therefore I made my mother. She bathed me in oatmeal (or something to that affect), rubbed me from head to toe in calamine lotion and gave me a shot of whiskey and honey.

Yep, that was my mom for ya! lol - So when I think of 12 kids at the same time getting them, I think that they better have had some great helpers and all the strength of God for those days. If nothing will bring you closer to the Lord, I’m sure that would. In a way, I almost think it’s justice in some kind of “do you not know any better than to have that many kids kind of way?”
