Taking Your Kid To Work Day Can Get You Fired?
Apparently April 22nd has been declared a National Take Our Daughter’s And Son’s To Work Day. I believe I had heard of it, but there hasn’t been anywhere that I have worked that I can remember either taking one of my kids in or where another parent did.
So there is a story that came out about a mother who took her daughter in that day, only to end up regretting her decision after the company let her go due to her daughter being in a prohibited area. The woman was a manager at the “Check-n-Go” and had been with the company for 11 years.
The story is a little weird because the company first says that they did not participate in the national holiday (yet do not use that as a reason for termination) and then say that the child was in a prohibited area that was off limits to employee’s friends and family. They never specified what this area was, but unless it was a construction site with a man hole, I’m not really understanding the magnitude. The employee had also stated that there had been exceptions made prior to that day and that this was the 4th year she had brought her daughter to work with her. Was there new management possibly?
Either way, it doesn’t seem check-n-go would be considered a very family friendly company to work for or that this lady and her daughter were treated very well on what should have been a positive experience for everyone involved.
