Pop Star/Wife & Mom?
There’s no doubt that Mom’s have came a long way from having the persona of frumpy, dumpy and “not as hot” as their younger and more single selves. Now there seems to be no problem with women who have had plenty of children still sporting their two piece bikinis on the beach or putting some red high heels for a night on the town. There are terms like cougar and other provocative acronyms that I won’t mention, along with things like plastic surgery these days that ensure that as long as you take care of yourself, even as a mother you can still be “hot”.
But even with all this and managing to straddle the work/mom fence, can you really maintain this upgraded version of “mom” and conquer the world outside of the home? It’s an even greater question when it comes to pop stars who build their image and brand off of sex appeal. It has been said that Christina Aguilera will be postponing her tour dates for a year. Is this due to lower than expected interest in her upcoming album, the reason that she gave which was lack of time to rehearse or is it really the new wife and mom bug? She said she was inspired by her son to create another album like her first one that was more “fun”. I don’t quite get how black cat suits and dramatized make-up were inspired from being a mom, but I guess what do I know?
I just read an article on Jennifer Lopez, who is also fairly new to the mom game, where she states how while it’s difficult to manage it all, she is still giving it a whirl and the whole “life has never been better” spill. If I hear these celebs lie one more time in these stupid 2 cent articles, I’m gonna scream! If you go to her web site, it is amped up with her sexy J.Lo pics and even though she is back in shape now, I doubt they were before she gave birth. Her waist is the size of a 12-yr-old girl’s. Maybe there was some major air brushing?
I think that motherhood is meant to change you. Not into necessarily some old hag that no one wants to look at or by you not taking care of yourself anymore either. But into someone who find’s a more caring, compassionate and mature side of herself. Sure, the sex appeal is still there but it’s not the only thing there anymore. I think that the downfall of artists like Christina, Brittany and Jennifer Lopez is that they build a majority of their image on sex and then just think that they can go and have kids behind the scenes without anyone taking notice. Stars are celebrated for what they are on and off of the stage, whether they like it or not. And ultimately there’s nothing that sexy about chasing around toddlers or cleaning up vomit in the middle of the night. Oh, and did I forget chasing around husband’s or cleaning up their vomit in the middle of the night either?
At least let the kids start school before you drop the diapers for the spotlight again. Then your die hard fans might be a little more forgiving.
