13-Year-Old Climbing Mt. Everest

Posted by Laurel on April 23rd, 2010

At the looks of this headline, you may think that this is something out of some fictional movie, however it isn’t. So what’s the story behind it? Apparently this 13-year-old kid has already climbed five of the tallest mountains in the world, but still has Everest and another in Antarctica yet to go.

Is this some kid who is out seeking attention with his family right along with him or is he a kid with a passion and a dream at a very young age? Are these parent’s being irresponsible by allowing the child to take such huge risks so young in life or are they simply supporting their child and doing their best to make sure he achieves his goals and is as safe as possible at the same time?

This is a doozy to say the least. I wasn’t even in love with my son playing a contact sport like football, but I also know that they are going to ultimately make certain decisions in life and you don’t want to be a road block to them seeing what they are possibly capable of. I guess as long as both the child and the parent’s are fully aware of the risk involved and are okay with them, who is to stand in their way?

Update: The teen has climbed Everest and upon reaching the top, he called his mom. She told him she was ready for him to get his butt home, I’m sure!

it is great motivation that just 13 yr old has climbed the top five mountain. I am using lift to get to my home at third floor.

That is an amazingly inspirational story. When I was that young I could only dream of traveling to see a mountain, let alone climbing one. I will be traveling to see Mt Everest this summer and was searching for information when I stumbled upon this blog. I have my hotel and flight booked, I bought insurance to cover both my trip and my health, and I even bought a new camera to take amazing photos with. I am happy the boy’s parents allowed him to attempt the climb. I’m sure once I get there and see the mountain in person I’ll be even more impressed at his feat of endurance.
