Before Becoming A Sperm Donor…

Posted by Laurel on April 1st, 2010

You might want to think about the fact that there are warnings now with the increased access to DNA testing and so many search engines on the internet, that your odds as being found as a sperm donor have increased tremendously over the years. Although when men sign up to donate sperm they are offered anonymity, many men are being awakened to the fact that it really isn’t that simple these days.

I’m not really sure how all of it works because I haven’t donated sperm, nor cared to use a sperm donor to father my children. However, I can imagine that when you go to purchase the sperm for your potential child, you may get some basic physical traits and maybe even some intellectual ones but when it comes to genetics, you really don’t know what kind of physical health your child will be born with. I’m sure the guy is asked if he’s in overall good health, but do they do genetic testing on sperm donors? I doubt it. So when these women get a number for the donor, if their child demonstrates odd characteristics or a certain diseases, do they get mad and request their money back? No, they more likely go looking to the sperm donor for answers. And what about siblings? Maybe they have similar issues? Maybe they just want to know their brothers and sisters?

Just because we live in an age where technology and science rule, it doesn’t mean that it’s all been figured out or that we can totally take the heart out of it. So before people walk in the door just trying to make a quick buck, they might want to think about some of the serious possible consequences on the other side waiting for them.
