Mississippi Cancels Prom Over Lesbian’s Request
It doesn’t surprise me that this is a headline that pops up pertaining to Mississippi, however it is something that definitely speaks about discrimination and how it exists not only out in the real world, but in our schools as well. So the rule states that students who attend the prom together, must be a male and female couple. And I guess if this girl wore a tuxedo and went with her girlfriend, that wouldn’t count? Even if this wasn’t a sexuality issue, if someone wanted to go to prom, but didn’t have a date and wanted to just bring a friend of the same sex, they would also be breaking the rule? I get it, prom is just as American as apple pie and it has always existed within certain lines and boundaries, but maybe that is why I never was comfortable with the whole idea in the first place?
I finally went to prom my senior year due to pressure from the guy I was seeing at the time because he had never went to prom. I’ll admit that I found a little fun in the dress shopping and wearing heels for possibly the first time ever, however me and my “guy” were only there long enough to have our picture taken and dance for a song or two. There was always something about the taste of pretentious and too many expectations that never allowed me to swallow the prom pill. So what was this lesbian thinking trying to tear pages from the prom bible? I have no idea, but I definitely think she has the balls it takes to wear a tuxedo

I never understand for what make such type of promt? If two people care about each other they don’t have to think about another world.
