Oprah Tunes Into Some Parenting Topics
Over the last month or so, Oprah’s had some interesting and enlightening shows that are parented related that I have watched, so thought I would share some of my thoughts around them and their links.
First there was the controversial show with Mackenzie Phillips allegations of incest. I know that she experienced some resistance concerning this taboo, yet much needed to be talked about subject. I mean how many women will be subjected to manipulation and victimized by the men closest to them in their lives before we begin to understand and resolve this complex yet simple issue? As long as it goes unacknowledged or feared, the necessary healing and solutions will remain the dark right along with it. Thanks to Mackenzie, Oprah and the rest that have had enough courage to come forward and discuss this issue that affects so many women today.
The next show that I didn’t happen to watch, but found on the internet helps to give us mom blogger’s representation along with another story of courage. It leaves you bewildered at our will to survive and overcome great obstacles in life changing circumstances.
Mom Blogger Survives Plain Crash
Last but not least there was the show on a six-year-old girl who has a rare case of schizophrenia for her age. The show tells the story of her parents who have struggled to parent her with very little to no resources and their struggle to keep not only their daughter alive, but themselves as well. Even Oprah shows exhaustion after only spending a few minutes with with the young girl and asking her a few simple questions. It reminds me how life changing having a child really can be, how thankful I should be to have had healthy children and how many more opportunities as a parent I have than many others. It also shows how alone parents can be in the world of parenting.
