Kourtney Kardashian’s Decision To Have Baby

Posted by Laurel on September 8th, 2009

I recently read an article on Kourtney Kardashian (Kim Kardashian’s sister & star in another one of those junkfood reality sitcoms) who is now pregnant and who openly admits that she had considered abortion after finding out. I think sometimes it can be a great thing for celebrities to discuss life issues, however in this instance, I’m not sure it would be the wisest thing to do being that your contemplated child may grow up to learn about it. But since the cat is out of the bag, then let’s march on through.

What struck me when reading her frank dialogue was that she said one of the things that was said to her when making her decision was from her doctor who used the “it’s the things in life that we “don’t” do that we can live to regret” line.

While I don’t believe there’s a “right or wrong” decision that could have been made by her, it does bring to light how influential other people can be in a situation like abortion and having children. I mean just alone, how many people do you know that get pressured by their parents to have children because they want to be grandparents? Even people who are strong willed succumb to external thoughts and pressures.

So is what the doctor relayed to her when she was searching for an answer really true? Maybe it is on one end of the scale, but not on the other. The actual fact is that here are plenty of people that regret both things that they have done and things that they didn’t do. I’m sure that she did not make her decison solely on this single thread alone. She is obviously in an okay place to have a child and must have some desire to want to be a mother to make her decision, even if it’s not under seemingly ideal circumstances. But when it comes to such a huge decision as becoming a parent, it seems you need to ask yourself if you are really the one making the decision?

There are many things that I regret not doing. Very few of the things I actually did came to be a regret. Those things that I wish I had done - and regret for not doing - I still wonder what might have happened if I had made a different choice.
