66 Year Old Woman Pregnant

Posted by Laurel on May 21st, 2009

So is there an age limit when it comes to having children? Apparently not for one lady who is 66 and pregnant.

When it comes to having children, mostly everyone has their own personal ideas on what the appropriate age is. I have a few childless friends that have passed the 30th birthday mark and who are not so sure that having children will be part of their life story.

Until recently, I didn’t know that my twins father had the cut off of 35. I was actually a little surprised because we were only a few years shy of that birthday before we had the twins and he had never told me his thoughts on it. I personally can’t ever remember having that magical age in my head when it came to having children but I knew I didn’t want to be 50 and worrying about teenagers and as it stands, I won’t be.

Everyone is different, therefore so are their limitations and capabilities when it comes having children. We can’t begin to discriminate based on age unless we want to open a whole other can of worms with deciding other criteria for having children as well. Sometimes I think freedom or rights should be restricted when it comes to infringing on those of others, but who would be the decision makers when it comes to that stuff? How many activist are out there fighting for a child’s rights after they are born?

Let’s face it. Many children get the short end of the stick because of who they are born to and where every day. Who is to determine a little healthy adversity versus borderline cruelty?

Maybe this woman who made this decision has this child’s life well planned out and will live to be at least 80 (even though they say giving birth subtracts years off of your life) and she will see his 14th birthday. Maybe she’s into breaking records and is proving that anything is possible? Maybe she’s just being ignorantly selfish and willfully creating a difficult life for not only herself but the unborn child as well? Ultimately we will never know, but one thing that we know for sure is that she obviously didn’t have a cut off date.
