The Perks of Parenthood
With parenting, there are many more moments of physically taking care of, disciplining and giving the love than there are the moments where you are on the receiving end…at least when they are little, that is.
There are moments when I truly believe I was tricked into having children by some evil having children fairy. There are moments in which you have to silently wonder why you are doing all that you do and even though you logically know that your children wouldn’t know what to do without you, you wonder with all of their crying, complaining and constant needing…if they love you as much as you love them.
But then there are small moments here and there that you feel like the luckiest person alive because one little being does love and depend on you so much.
One of the habits I have as a parent (I believe us parents all have certain parenting habits that come naturally - some good, some bad) is to just lay in the bed on the weekends & make my kids come talk to me. Sometimes it’s pointless because they are too distracted, but sometimes I can actually have a conversation in which something is learned on both ends.
This past Saturday, Jantzen (my most challenging child) sat on the side of the bed and proceeded to tell me what he was going to do with coins he was going to win in a game. He told me he was going to buy me some boots. Then he would buy me a “princess bed” and a Hannah Montana bike. In that moment, I felt so loved and all of the hard, can’t seem to take it anymore moments vanished…or at least made it seemed worth it.
