I must say I am quite surprised by the feedback. I was almost certain I would hear more from Santa supporters. Thought it would be a “controversial” lol - post! It’s comforting to know that I’m not the only one that has struggled with this issue! Thx guys!

We don’t “do” Santa and never have. Only my youngest has ever voiced even the slightest regret about it. We’ve always had a great time at Christmas with our own little traditions.

All of our children were adopted, so I felt it was doubly important that they didn’t view me as someone who was keeping back part of the story from them about anything.

And I’ve always believed that the home and church should be where we celebrate the real reason for the season.

Sure, I like Santa TV specials and movies, and Santa songs - just like I like stories about other make-believe characters.

I am having pangs of guilt this year. This is the first year my oldest has gotten really into santa. I think next year we may tell her it’s pretend. We haven’t encouraged it but in preschool they have been doing a lot of Santa related things.

Although, when I was a kid my parents did Santa and I never thought anything of it once I figured it out. I thought it was sort of a harmless game at the time. Now that I’m a parent, I’m just confused about the issue.

We don’t do Santa in our house either. We’re not boring old stick-in-the-muds, it’s just never come up and I don’t feel the need to teach him about something which is totally irrelevant.

My views on this have changed. I always thought that it was harmless fun and anyone who didn’t agree was a Scrooge and wanted to take the joy away from kids.

Now I’ve changed because a lie is a lie. I’m not going to lie to my kids because once they know I’ve lied about that, they may start to question other things I’ve told them, especially about God.

So as for me and my house, I say NO to Santa.
