DNA Testing on Demand

Posted by Laurel on May 24th, 2008

As I was on my way to take the kids to daycare the other day, I noticed a sign stapled to a tree that said DNA testing. I thought wow, what is that about? Now DNA testing can be done right after a quick stop in at your local drug store. Just buy a kit and viola! No more questions, doubts or comparing baby pictures. Seems the people who couldn’t afford the tests before, can now avoid the humiliation of showing up on Maury Povich or in court to discover their child’s biological parent.

I think its down right disturbing how these clueless people are exploited while in the midst of a life crisis. And then there are these shows where not only two or three men are in question, but dozens. And each time the negative results produce a quick dash off of the stage in tears. This is our form of entertainment in America?

I try my best not to be judgmental because I know I have made too many mistakes to count as well, but there’s a great sign in unreadiness in parenthood with being unsure of who the other parent is. Most of the women that end up in this predicament are young confused and usually aren’t sure of their own father. So instead of focusing on getting them the help they need, we put them on stage and victimize not only them but the children and men as well.

Maybe after seeing themselves on television and really looking at the whole situation they will learn from it? Maybe they’ll be happy with their five seconds of fame? Once again, I’m not really sure what the whole deal is about, but if it were me, I’d be really thankful to whatever company that put the power back into the hands of the people concerning these life mishaps ;)
