Our local newspaper has a section each year on what people earn. I’m not someone who says that money is everything, however I will say that the phrase “put your money where your mouth is” didn’t come from out of the blue, it came from our money going into what matters most to us.

The latest statistic that I’ve heard is that parents spend an average of $250,000 per child. Ultimately this figure ends up meaning $13,000/yr which I think is on the skinny side.

Often you will hear people say, I can’t afford a child. When in reality 90% of the people who have children can’t afford one child, much less two or more. If everyone waited until they could, most would never have any.

Being a parent holds greater responsibility than any of the other occupations, yet often isn’t honored or respected. We are given Mother and Father’s day. How do I spend mine as a mother, usually not by being one.

In the occupation of parenthood, you aren’t offered training/education (which all who sign up desperately need), salary, vacation or sick leave. People often don’t have co-workers to share in the huge responsibility. Yet we wonder why so many fail at parenthood?

In this day and age of global awareness, parenting is another natural resource and job not given the respect or support that it needs and deserves. Maybe we can add it to the list in our quest to save the planet? Or dare we ask?

Great topic. I actually wrote about something similar. Parenting really isn’t appreciated these days and that’s sad.
