When Candy Isn’t So Sweet
I was a 90210 fan growing up in the 90’s, but not so much of Tori Spelling. For some reason she did seem like a backdrop in the show. Once I learned who the producer of the show was, it made sense. It’s not that Tori lacked complete talent, but compared to the cast she worked with and being that she wasn’t the model of beauty, she couldn’t quite compete with the other main blonde and brunette.
However, after her not receiving her family’s fortune, as well as her candid story about her relationship with her mom, it seems that Tori is finally coming into her own and starting to shine.
When she talks about her relationship with her mother, she says that they have a “non-confrontational” relationship. In code that means they cannot talk about things. I know because I have had similar issues with my own mother. Things get too heated or seemingly personal, and before you know it, the fire has spread all the way to the front page in bold black letters. With my own mother, we have a connection on some levels, it’s just times that I know it would be smarter for me to bring up the kids or even the circular motion of the ceiling fan.
Tori talks about coming to an understanding of her mother and some of the reasoning behind their strained relationship. She talks of how her mother was her father’s world until she came along. Where it is quite common for parents to make the mistake of putting children over the other spouse, where is the excuse of having the problem with the child because of it?
I’m slowly learning that the only reason there is strain in a relationship is when one or both individuals are unable to be understanding, loving or putting the other before themselves. There’s a blog online by Tori’s mother, Candy, and it talks about how she needs medication to deal with her daughter’s new book. This makes it very clear who she cares about, even at this stage of the game.
Tori talks about having children of her own, and knowing how much a mother must love her child. Does that she didn’t know her mother really loved her until she had her own kids?
Unfortunately Candy & Tori are not unique in their situation or story. There may be different causing factors but children soak up parents feelings like sponges. Any anger, jealousy or resentment they feel and see it. Parenting is one of the toughest jobs ever, do your best to stay awake on it.
