I Am The Biggest Wussy

Posted by Allena Tapia on January 8th, 2008

I hate shots. Not for myself, necessarily- that’s not a problem. But for my kids. I cannot stand it when they have to have vaccines. I often make my husband take that doctors appointment. In fact, my 4 year old son is about 5 months overdue for his last shot. Bad mommy, I know. Husband is supposed to be scheduling it this week. (hello? husband? you reading this?)

I really try to tell my kids that it’s quick, easy and short. But then things like this come along and mess that up: the HPV vaccine has been causing fainting in teenage girls due to the pain associated with it!

Grrrreeeaaatt. So now I can’t even convince my kids (or myself) that it’s quick, easy and over soon.

Unless you live under a rock, you’ve heard of the HPV vaccine. It caused a lot of controversy because many people thought it might encourage, or at least give a nod to, sexual activity in teenage girls. (Whatever. So does TV, billboards, books, movies, magazines and their peers. Go back to your family compund.)

6 of us siblings never got any vaccine…my own kids (ages 8, 10, and 13) never got any vaccine.

my mom had her BCG when she was in grade school and all her life it was painful even with a light tap because of the kelloid that developed. Many of us do have that kelloid genes so we are greatful we never had any vaccine.

God protected us and He is our vaccine.

It’s interesting that you mention the HPV vaccine. I’ve been planning on doing a post myself on that topic, but haven’t gotten to it yet.

I need to get busy with that one, since I’ve written other topics relating to teen sex, and have an upcoming post on abusive teenage relationships (that often times includes forcible sex and possibilities of contracting a disease like HPV) due to publish in a couple days.
