Get the Lead Out
Concerned about lead in your kids’ holiday gifts? You’re not alone!
If your little one gnaws on stuff like the sweetie in this picture, than you should be worried. Taking my cue from Santa, I’ve made a list and checked it twice so that you can have some peace this season.
- Healthy Toys.org has a list of hundreds of toys, along with their tested levels of lead, mercury and other poisons. You can sort by brand or type of toy. There’s also opportunities for advocacy and government involvement.
- CNN’s favorite doc, Dr. Sanjay Gupta weighs in on this issue.
- Here’s one to take to the mall with you. The Daily Green has a listing of ten lead free toys.
- You know the one thing you need more than anything on Christmas morning? Batteries. Here’s another little tool you should add to that list, though: a lead-test stick. Simple. You just wipe it across the toys and read the color chart.
