Sappy Family Time

Posted by Allena Tapia on November 28th, 2007

I am such a big fan of eMoms at Home. I follow the founder, Wendy Piersall, on Twitter. I have DadBalance blogrolled I believe, and I am a constant visitor to Freelance Parent, which is kind of like reading my own diary.

So, I won this really cool book from a contest at DadBalance. It was a book from CherishBound about family traditions.

At first, I kind of discounted it. Who the heck has time for establishing and maintaining family traditions? I can barely get a shower in sometimes!

But, I picked it up in a moment of weakness (my internet was down) and found an excellent resource. The book walked me through a year’s cycle, and got me thinking about the things my family does in each month/season/holiday time. Turns out, we do have quite a bit of traditions, and you probably do, too. All you need is to start thinking, remembering, and then writing them down to make them concrete.

In addition to this cute little Traditions book, Cherish Bound has a whole catalog of items to record your family moments/memories. The majority of their stocks seems to be in “Story Starters”: small $10 books that promise to efficiently record your best memories, based on their phrases and prompts.

Seems like a great idea to me. Like traditions, we all have wonderful memories floating around in our heads, just looking for a couple minutes to get out and get recorded before their lost forever.

One caveat: it looks like (as far as I can tell) you can only get Cherish Bound products through a Hostess Party/Home Party. Too bad, because I spent a good 20 minutes on their website clicking around, and they would have easily had a largish order from me had they been able to sell online.

I’m still investigating, but just thought I’d pass on the recommendation!

Just for kicks- what are some of your family traditions?

Some we just did:

  • Create a Day of the Dead altar around Halloween
  • Snap a photo of the kids together in their costumes before we go trick-or-treating.

And some coming up:

  • Bake and decorate sugar cookies around Christmas.
  • Venture over to Frankemuth once a year around Christmas.

You?
