I guess I just don't come from a drinking family. It never would have occurred to me to have adult drinks at a kid's birthday party. It sounds a little inappropriate to me, but if no one is getting drunk or driving impaired, I guess it doesn't really matter that much.

Oh, but our parties are food and drinks. They last for hours, not just a couple.

I must say, I think you hit the nail on the head. When your family and friends (adults) are around for the b-day parties, you have a tendency to drink those every so refreshing adult drinks...man I could use one right now. LOL

I didn't really pay attention to the fact I don't drink when other's children are around with no additional adults; drinking doesn't even enter the picture...at least not until AFTER the party...when it is MUCH needed. teehee.

Great blog and you are just too funny over there at wahm!

"If there’s no way you can handle 2 hours without a cup or two of gin then go for it"

Dear Weird Uncle Zack,
Dj is not referring to you. Put the glass down.

I don't ever remember my parents having drinks at any parties for me or my siblings. My brother is at the age where he would still have yearly parties and I don't foresee any beverages being passed around. Holidays-yes. Birthday parties- no.

As for the debate- people have to do what they feel comfortable with. If there's no way you can handle 2 hours without a cup or two of gin then go for it. Just don't drive home with a bunch of kiddos in the backseat.

My family has been celebrating birthdays for the young ones since 1981 and I do not recall never not having drinks. We have now only have six parties a year since some have advanced to adulthood (amazing)and we still have drinks and at my brothers house four times a year we have a bondfire. One of his daughters is July 2 and we have drinks, bondfire and fireworks.

We all have fun and the kids all play together. Of course, our holidays all with drinks as well. Um, I see a pattern. LOL.

This is a great post and I would like to see other view points.
