How Cute is Your Kid?

‘Orange’ you glad you asked?

I previously posted about word games. Well, it turns out word games are a great thing for your developing toddler. All that goofiness and those stale jokes may be painful for you (and me), but they help your baby/toddler/preschooler figure out out language. Beast likes knock-knock jokes, but I’m not sure he really gets them.

Even elementary age children can benefit from word games and knock knock jokes. You know all those overly-commercialized yogurt bars and sugary gummy snacks? Lately I’ve noticed that many of them come with some real groaner jokes, many of which are based on homonyms and homophones.

Here’s a sample from Diva Jr.-What kind of show do plumbers go to? A tap dance. (Yeah, hardy har, welcome to my world.)

In order to save you hours upon hours of listening to groaners while smiling happily, here are some other word games for you and your kids to enjoy:

Word Confusion - Is it sent or scent?

Word Search - That will keep them quiet occupied for awhile.

Literati- This is a good multiplayer game for older kids. (Free but you have to register on yahoo)

By the way, be sure to leave me your best groaner joke. Don’t worry- once I tell it to Beast and Diva Jr., I’ll only hear it about 100 times!

My two year old just discovered knock jokes too! Here’s her favorite:

Knock, knock
Who’s there?
Ya!
Ya who?
Ya who, howdy pardner!

It cracks me up every time.

Remember Mad Libs? I swear that game taught me the difference between adjectives and adverbs like no teacher could!
